Hurricane Dolly blows ashore on South Padre Island in Texas; levees hold despite heavy rain (KXAN 36 Austin)
BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) - The South Texas coast has been assaulted by Hurricane Dolly's punishing rain and winds of 100 miles per hour. Most of the damage was on South Padre Island. Numerous roofs were ripped off and windows were smashed.

DOLLY MADE LANDFALL IN SOUTH PADRE ISLAND (The Brownsville Herald)
Dolly made landfall north of South Padre Island and expected farther inland over Southern Texas later today. A Hurricane warning remains in effect for the coast of Brownsville to Corpus Christi and for the Northeastern coast of Mexico from Rio San Fernando Northward to the border between Mexico and United States.

Posted to the South Padre Island Breeze at 11:45 a.m. South Padre Island is experiencing hurricane force winds as the center of Hurricane Dolly approaches the beach. Unconfirmed reports indicate that winds speeds have reached 100 mph with higher gusts.

Category 2 Hurricane Dolly Crosses South Padre Island, Texas (PhysOrg)
At 12:00 p.m. CDT (1:00 p.m. EDT) Dolly's eye was located near latitude 26.2 north and longitude 97.0 west or about 35 miles northeast of Brownsville, Texas, and she was crossing South Padre Island.
